Bearings Knowledge

SKF bearing marking suffix symbol meaning

(1) Internal design

ACD - The contact angle is 25 degrees.
B - The contact angle is 40 degrees.
CC - contact angle of 12 degrees.
CD - contact angle of 15 degrees.
BE - BE type bearings with a contact angle of 40 degrees, with enlarged steel balls and glass fibre reinforced nylon 6.6 cages.

Double-row angular contact ball bearings

A - standard design of bearings with outside diameter less than or equal to 90 mm, without ball loading notch, with glass fibre reinforced nylon 6.6 cage.
E - the bearing has a ball loading notch on one side, which can be loaded with more steel balls and therefore has a high radial and axial load carrying capacity.

Spherical roller bearings

CAC, ECAC, CA, ECA - these are designed for large size bearings with symmetrical rollers.
CC, C, EC - these bearings have symmetrical rollers and the inner ring has no retaining edge.
E - is SKF company adopts the latest standard design. E-type bearings with oil grooves and three oil holes in the outer ring, then the rear code must be added W, to show the difference.

Cylindrical roller bearings

B - bearings with surface treated rollers (full complement roller bearings).
B4 - bearing collar surface and roller surface are treated (full complement roller bearings).
EC - the internal geometry of the bearings is improved to have high load carrying capacity, and the retaining edge and roller end surfaces have good contact and lubrication conditions to withstand high axial loads.

(2) External design

CA, CB, CC - general-purpose paired single-row angular contact ball bearings, can be arbitrarily (tandem, face-to-face or back-to-back) paired installation. Back-to-back or face-to-face arrangement, axial installation before the internal clearance and the normal value than: small (CA), normal (CB), larger (CC).

-2F - outer spherical ball bearing with dust flap on both sides.
-2FF - outer spherical ball bearings with combined dust flinging retaining ring on both sides.

G - General-purpose paired single-row angular contact ball bearings. Face-to-face or back-to-back arrangement, the bearing has a certain preload before mounting.
GA--Face to face, back to back arrangement, there is a lighter preload in the bearing.
GB - face-to-face, back-to-back arrangement, there is a medium preload in the bearing.
GC - face-to-face, back-to-back arrangement with heavy preload in the bearing.
K - tapered bore, taper 1:12.

K30 - tapered bore, taper 1:30.

-LS - Bearing with contact seal on one side and no sealing groove in the inner ring.
-2LS - bearing with LS seal on both sides.

N - bearing outer ring with stop groove.
NR - bearing outer ring with stop groove and stop ring.
N2 - the outer ring chamfered with two diameter in the direction of the opposite groove.
PP - bearings (supporting roller bearings, cam follower bearings) have contact seals on both sides.
RS - bearings (needle roller bearings) with synthetic rubber or polyurethane contact seals on one side.

-RS1 - bearings with steel-lined synthetic rubber contact seals on one side.
-2RS1 - Bearings have RS1 seals on both sides.
-2RS - bearings (needle bearings) with RS seals on both sides.
-RZ - bearings with low friction seals lined with steel plate synthetic rubber on one side.
-2RZ - bearings with RZ seals on both sides.

X - 1. Basic dimensions corrected to meet ISO standards; 2. Cylindrical rolling surfaces (supporting roller bearings, cam follower bearings).

Z - bearing with dust cap on one side (non-friction seal).

-2Z - bearings with dust caps on both sides.
-ZN - bearings with dust caps on one side and stop grooves on the outer ring on the other side.
-2ZN - bearings with dust caps on both sides and stop grooves on the outer ring.
-2NR - the same as -ZN, and with a stop ring.
-2ZNR - with -2ZN, and with stop ring.

(3) Cage

In order to indicate the bearing in the keep frame guide way, keep frame after the code can add letters A or B. A said keep frame by the outer ring guide; B said keep frame by the inner ring guide. No indication of the cage by the rolling body guide.

F - Solid cage made of steel or special cast iron.
J - Cage made of steel plate stamping and forming.
M - Light alloy solid cage.
MP - Brass solid cage.
P - Glass fibre nylon 6.6 moulded cage.
TN - Engineering plastic moulded cage.
Y--Brass sheet stamping and forming cage.
V--Full roller bearings (no cage).

VH - full complement roller bearings (cylindrical roller bearings) consisting of non-separable roller assemblies.
4) Bearing configuration.

/DB - two pairable single row deep groove ball bearings, single row angular contact ball bearings or single row tapered roller bearings are mounted in pairs in a back-to-back manner. the number after DB indicates the size of the axial clearance or the size of the preload at mounting.

A - light preload (angular contact ball bearings).
B - larger preload than A (angular contact ball bearings).
C - greater preload than B (angular contact ball bearings).
CA - smaller internal clearance (deep groove or angular contact ball bearings).
CB - internal clearance is larger than CA (deep groove or angular contact ball bearing).
CC - internal clearance is larger than CB (deep groove ball bearing).
CG - "zero" clearance (tapered roller bearings).
C...- special axial internal clearance CC followed by a number indicating the size of the axial clearance.

GA - lighter preload (deep groove ball bearings).
GB - Preload greater than CA (deep groove ball bearings).
G...--Special preload (the number after G indicates the size of preload).
/DF - two face-to-face arrangement of paired single-row deep groove ball bearings, single-row angular contact ball bearings or single-row tapered roller bearings. DF can be followed by the same letter as after DB.
/DT - two tandem arrangement of paired deep groove ball bearings, single row angular contact ball bearings or single row tapered roller bearings.

5) Heat treatment. The bearing inner and outer ring dimensions are stabilised for operation at the following temperatures:

/S0 - up to 150 degrees Celsius.
/S1 - up to 200 degrees Celsius.
/S2 - up to 250 degrees Celsius.
/S3 - up to 300 degrees Celsius.
/S4 - up to 350 degrees Celsius.

6) Lubricant replenishment.

/W - lubricant cannot be replenished (no lubricant grooves and oil holes).
/W20 - The bearing outer ring has three lubricant holes.
/W33 - bearing outer ring has lubricating oil groove and three oil holes.
/W33X - bearing outer ring has lubricating oil groove and six oil holes.

7) Lubricant. Used to identify the type of grease filling bearing rear code by a group of letters and two numbers, the letters indicate the temperature range, followed by two numbers indicate the actual use of grease, common letter groups are as follows:

/HT - high temperature grease (-20 degrees C ~ +130 degrees C).
/LHT - low/high temperature grease (-40 degree C ~ +140 degree C).
/LT - Low Temperature Grease (-50 degree Celsius ~ +80 degree Celsius).
/MT - Medium temperature grease (-30 degree C ~ 110 degree C).

The MT suffix indicates the use of non-standard grease for specific bearings. When the amount of grease used in the bearing differs from the standard filling amount (25%~30% of the free space inside the bearing), it is identified by an additional letter:

A: The amount of grease is less than the standard amount.
B: The amount of grease is greater than the standard amount.
C: The amount of grease is greater than B.

8) Other characteristics. The letter V and another letter (e.g. VA) in combination with three digits are used to identify variants of the standard design that cannot be expressed by other existing post-designators. E.g.:

/VA201 - Kiln car bearings.

/VA301 - Cylindrical roller bearings for traction motors.
